Overview

LocalSky Weather is a weather app and website from Ground to Sky Designs. This Privacy Policy explains what information LocalSky Weather may collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

LocalSky Weather does not currently require a LocalSky account, and we do not sell your personal information.

Information We Collect

Location information. When you use current-location features, LocalSky Weather may access your device or browser location with your permission. We use latitude and longitude, city, ZIP, or landmark searches, and saved forecast locations to provide weather, alerts, radar, pollen, air quality, and related outdoor-planning features. If you have not chosen a precise location, LocalSky Weather may use approximate location information from your connection, such as city, region, country, postal code, or approximate coordinates supplied by our hosting provider. LocalSky Weather does not use your forecast location for advertising.

Saved places, widgets, and preferences. LocalSky Weather may store saved, default, last-opened, and last-known forecast locations on your device or browser, including location labels and coordinates. We also store selected weather mode, startup preference, unit settings, notification preferences, launch configuration, and related feature preferences so the app, website, and widgets can remember your settings.

Weather requests and service logs. When the app requests a forecast, our servers and hosting providers may receive the requested location key or coordinates, IP address, device or browser information, request time, and related technical logs. Our backend also stores prebuilt weather, alert, radar, pollen, and air quality views for forecast locations so LocalSky Weather can load quickly.

Notifications. If you enable weather warning notifications, LocalSky Weather may collect and store a LocalSky install ID, Firebase Cloud Messaging token, notification permission state, app version, build number, platform, default location key, and related NWS zone or county identifiers needed to deliver alerts. We store the push token because Firebase requires it to send notifications, and we use token hashes or references in logs and queues where practical. You can disable notifications in the app or your device settings.

Analytics, diagnostics, and support. LocalSky Weather may collect app and website usage events, screen names, feature access events, performance traces, crash reports, nonfatal error categories, cache or API result categories, platform, app version, build number, device model, and operating system details. LocalSky-defined analytics and diagnostic fields are filtered to avoid precise coordinates, location keys, addresses, names, emails, and search text. Some builds may also send a privacy-safe startup environment summary, such as device environment, app version, build, and operating-system version, to help diagnose launch crashes. If you choose to export, copy, share, or email a debug report or contact us for support, we may receive the information you decide to send, such as app diagnostics, issue details, screenshots, and your contact information.

App integrity and security. LocalSky Weather may use Firebase App Check and platform integrity services such as Apple DeviceCheck to verify app requests and protect notification and API endpoints from abuse.

How We Use Information

We use information to provide and improve LocalSky Weather, including to:

  • Show forecasts, alerts, radar, pollen, air quality, and outdoor weather tools for selected locations.
  • Remember saved places and app preferences.
  • Send weather-related notifications you enable.
  • Measure app and website reliability, performance, crashes, and feature usage.
  • Operate, protect, debug, and improve the app, website, API, and infrastructure.
  • Respond to support requests.

How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with service providers and partners only as needed to run LocalSky Weather, such as cloud hosting, content delivery, analytics, crash reporting, performance monitoring, app integrity, push notifications, weather data, geocoding, radar, air quality, pollen, and support services. Current providers and data sources may include AWS, Firebase and Google services, Apple, weather.gov/NWS, RainViewer, Open-Meteo, OpenWeather, and Google Pollen. These providers may process information according to their own policies.

The website may use Google Analytics, Firebase web analytics, Firebase Performance, and Google tag measurement. LocalSky filters its own analytics events to avoid intentionally sending precise coordinates, saved location keys, addresses, emails, names, or search text.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or in connection with a business transfer.

Retention and Deletion

Saved places and preferences stored on your device or browser remain there until you delete them, clear app or browser data, or uninstall the app. Notification tokens and alert subscriptions are kept while needed to provide notifications and may be disabled or removed when permissions are turned off, tokens become invalid, or they are no longer needed. Server logs are kept only as long as reasonably needed for security, reliability, debugging, and legal compliance, then deleted or de-identified. Support messages are kept as long as needed to respond and maintain business records.

To request deletion of information you have provided directly to us, contact support@localskyweather.com.

Your Choices

  • You can allow or deny location permission in your device or browser settings.
  • You can search by city, ZIP, or landmark instead of using current location.
  • You can delete saved locations in the app or website.
  • You can disable notifications in the app or your device settings.
  • You can limit website analytics through browser privacy controls, content blockers, or settings offered by your browser or device.

Children

LocalSky Weather is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us and we will take appropriate action.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect information. No internet or mobile service can guarantee absolute security.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the date above. Material changes will be posted on this page or communicated through the app when appropriate.
